Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Impulse application ("App") or visiting impulseact.com ("Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Impulse.

2. What Impulse Is

Impulse is a behavioral coaching platform that helps users build impulse control skills. The App provides guided breathing exercises, behavioral scoring, competitive exercises, AI-powered coaching, and educational content.

3. What Impulse Is NOT

Impulse is not a medical device, therapy service, or clinical treatment program.

• Our AI-powered guides are behavioral coaches, not licensed therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, or counselors. They cannot diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, or provide clinical treatment.
• The Impulse Control Score (ICS) is a behavioral metric designed to help you track patterns. It is not a clinical assessment or diagnostic tool.
• Impulse does not replace professional help. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line) immediately.
• Nothing in the App should be interpreted as medical advice. Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical concerns.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 17 years old to use Impulse. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 17 years of age. If you are under 17, do not use Impulse.

5. Account Responsibility

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
• You must provide accurate information during registration
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms

6. Pricing

Impulse is completely free. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no paywall on any feature.

We reserve the right to introduce optional paid features in the future. If we ever do, all features available today will remain free, and any new paid features will be clearly disclosed before purchase.

Crisis resources (Override breathing exercise, 988 hotline, Crisis Text Line) will always be free, regardless of any future product changes.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's servers or networks
• Use the AI coaching feature to generate harmful, abusive, or illegal content
• Share your account credentials with others
• Use the App to harass, threaten, or harm others

8. AI Coaching Limitations

• Guides may occasionally provide inaccurate or inappropriate responses. They are tools to support your journey, not replacements for human judgment.
• Coaching conversations are processed by Anthropic's Claude API. By using the coaching feature, you consent to this data processing.
• We implement crisis keyword detection that pre-screens messages before they reach the AI. If crisis language is detected, you will be immediately directed to professional resources.
• AI coaching sessions are limited to 20 per day to encourage healthy usage patterns.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• Impulse is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
• We do not guarantee that the App will prevent gambling, reduce urges, or achieve any specific behavioral outcome. Individual results vary.
• We are not liable for any financial losses, emotional distress, or other damages arising from or related to your use of the App.
• We are not liable for decisions you make based on AI coaching suggestions.
• Because Impulse is provided free of charge, our total liability for any claims arising from these Terms or your use of the App is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100).

10. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from within the App (Settings section of your profile). Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Upon deletion:

• All personal data is permanently removed from our servers
• All coaching session history is deleted
• All behavioral data (ICS history, urge logs, streaks) is deleted
• Your authentication record is deleted

11. Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of Impulse — including but not limited to the Override engine, ICS scoring system, Arena games, and Academy content — are owned by Impulse Inc. and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms will be resolved in the courts of Miami-Dade County, Florida.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Significant changes will be communicated via in-app notification at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of Impulse after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
